Disability Claims Through the VRS
The Virginia Retirement System (VRS) is essentially Virginia's state version of Social Security. If you have worked long enough for the state in any position, you can retire under their system or draw disability benefits from them. However, the standard used by the VRS is different than that used by Social Security. With VRS benefits, you do not have to prove that you cannot work — you just have to prove that you have a disability.
At the Law Offices of Bruce K. Billman, we can help you seek VRS benefits as well as SSDI benefits for your disability. Much of the same information is needed to file both claims, so preparing for one can help prepare for the other. We work closely with treating physicians to prepare disability claims, working to develop medical evidence that will aid your claim. Our goal is to help you maximize the benefits you receive between the two systems. We can explore additional sources of compensation as well.
If a back disorder or other disability is preventing you from working, you may qualify for benefits under the Virginia Retirement System and Social Security Disability. Attorney Bruce Billman has more than 30 years of experience providing SSDI and VRS representation to clients in Virginia. Our law firm can help you explore your full scope of legal options if an injury, illness, or disability has prevented you from working.
